Darkhold (Book of Sins)


Darkhold, also known as the Book of Spells, is a book that allows the reader to build the things they want the most. The book is made of dark matter from the Hell dimension. The Darkhold was created in Hell dimension and was made of dark matter. It was said to contain infinite knowledge. Over the course of history, many individuals searched for it, including Red Skull, Daniel Whitehall, and Nick Fury.

In the 21st century, Lucy and Joseph Bauer found it in the basement of the home's former owner and opened it. When Lucy touched it, she discovered she could read the text in English. When Joseph touched it, he could read it in German. As she studied the Darkhold, Lucy became obsessed with it. It helped Joseph to build the Quantum Particle Generator in Momentum Labs to allegedly create matter out of thin air when in truth the machine was siphoning energy from another dimension. The engineer of the project, Eli Morrow, desired the book for himself. He tried to reason with Joseph to give him the book, but he refused to give it to him.

Publication Information


One day, Morrow put all the Momentum Labs workers inside the machine in order to kill him and take the book for himself. He personally attacked Joseph, but the latter refused to tell him where he had hidden the Darkhold, so he put him into a coma. Unbeknownst to Morrow, Bauer and three of her co-workers Hugo, Frederick, and Vincent transformed into spiritual entities, contained within the special box created with the Darkhold's knowledge. Years later, Lucy visited Joseph and snapped him out of his coma to get the current location of the Darkhold.

Capabilities

The Darkhold provides the reader the instructions to make their desires come true, written in the language the reader would fully understand. The instructions guide the reader to their ultimate goal by showing them how to build items, some of which harness energy from other dimensions. Therefore, even brilliant scientists, like Leo Fitz, cannot understand how the creations work. However, the secondary ability of the book is to corrupt the reader's mind and create a dangerous obsession over the Darkhold.

A person who has used the Darkhold for a long time may not want others to even touch it. Even a brief skim through the book could corrupt the reader's mind, like in the case of Holden Radcliffe, who allowed himself to betray his friends simply to regain possession of the book. Abiotic beings, such as the Life-Model Decoy Aida, can also become corrupted if they read the book. The Darkhold can even corrupt people who have yet to read it; an example is Eli Morrow, who attempted to murder his Momentum Labs coworkers after learning the capabilities of the machine they were building.

Inventions

Quantum Particle Generator

Quantum Particle Generator Quantum Particle Generator was a device powered by Quantum Batteries created by Momentum Labs under Joseph Bauer's supervision, meant to grant superhuman abilities to its user. Following a failed first experiment, another efficient version was built by Eli. Momentum Labs scientists Joseph and Lucy Bauer discovered the Darkhold, a grimoire of infinite knowledge they used to create a Quantum Battery. Thanks to this unmatched technology, the Momentum Labs team was able to generate matter seemingly out of nothing. However, Joseph, who grew more and more influenced by the Darkhold, did not stop there and designed a Quantum Particle Generator powered by Quantum Batteries which would enable him to directly create matter instead of using a machine.

Quantum Batteries

Quantum Batteries Quantum Batteries, harness inter-dimensional energy via advanced quantum physics. After the attack on the scientists, excluding Joseph Bauer, perpetrated by Eli Morrow, their forms were imprisoned in the Quantum Batteries for several years. As a result of being exposed to the Quantum Particle Generator, the scientists were being drawn into another dimension but because of being trapped in the batteries, they became stuck between dimensions, gaining ghost-like abilities, including the ability to induce madness in other people through physical contact or a whisper.

Inter-Dimensional Gate

Inter-Dimensional Gate Inter-Dimensional Gate is an inter-dimensional gateway created by Holden Radcliffe with the aid of his assistant Aida. In combination with the Laser-Coupling Gloves and utilizing the Quantum Batteries obtained from Momentum Labs, they were used by Aida to rescue Phil Coulson, Leo Fitz and Robbie Reyes, who were trapped between two dimensions. With the information she obtained from the Darkhold, Aida tasked Holden Radcliffe with creating Laser-Coupling Gloves and an Inter-Dimensional Gate in order to retrieve Phil Coulson, Leo Fitz and Robbie Reyes from another dimension. Once both items had been built, Aida put on and activated the gloves and started to place invisible strings of energy in a position that formed a portal inside the gate, drawing the aforementioned energy from the Quantum Batteries. When the portal manifested, Coulson and Fitz returned to their native dimension through it.

Laser-Coupling Gloves

Laser-Coupling Gloves Laser-Coupling Gloves are a pair of gloves created by Holden Radcliffe to Aida's specifications. In combination with the Inter-Dimensional Gate, they were used by Aida to rescue Phil Coulson, Leo Fitz and Robbie Reyes, who were trapped between two dimensions. With the information she obtained from the Darkhold, Aida tasked Holden Radcliffe with creating Laser-Coupling Gloves and an Inter-Dimensional Gate in order to retrieve Phil Coulson, Leo Fitz and Robbie Reyes from another dimension.

Once both items had been built, Aida put on and activated the gloves and started to place invisible strings of energy in a position that formed a portal inside the gate. When the portal manifested, Coulson and Fitz returned to their native dimension through it. Aida took the gloves back to the Radcliffe Residence, where she used them to create a brain. Aida used the Laser-Coupling Gloves again to open the Inter-Dimensional Gate again during the Battle at the Chinatown Crew Headquarters.

Quantum Brain

Quantum Brain Quantum Brain is a brain made of light which works like a real brain. It was created by Aida using the Laser-Coupling Gloves and knowledge from the Darkhold. Having taken the Laser-Coupling Gloves back to the Radcliffe Residence after rescuing Phil Coulson and Leo Fitz from another dimension, Aida used them to create a brain with the information she obtained from the Darkhold.

The Quantum Brains were built into the Life-Model Decoys of Melinda May and Holden Radcliffe in order to store all their memories and make them act and feel like their templates. After Radcliffe LMD was captured, Leo Fitz discovered the Quantum Brain and was amazed by the advanced technology and the operating capability. The Quantum Brains were built into the Life-Model Decoys of the Life-Model Decoy of Phil Coulson, Daisy Johnson, Alphonso Mackenzie, Jeffrey Mace and Leo Fitz and later into mechanical bodies of Anton Ivanov.

The device draws quantum power from Hell and converts it to living organic tissue, thus effectively creating a biological being. However, since the body is made from Dark Matter, it cannot be hidden from demonic beings such as the Ghost Rider. Using the knowledge within the book known as the Darkhold, Joseph and Lucy Bauer created Quantum Batteries which enabled them to create matter seemingly out of nothing. Later, their colleague Eli Morrow expanded the project and gained powers of creating matter. After being able to synthetize compounds like water, Morrow claimed that the next step was creating living matter.

In parallel of all these events, Dr. Holden Radcliffe designed and created Aida, a Life-Model Decoy who served as his assistant. Aida got in contact with both the Darkhold and Quantum Batteries, even helping to defeat Morrow, and progressively grew the desire of acquiring a full human body so that she would be able to feel actual emotions and have free will. Therefore, she designed a plan where she would use the Framework, a virtual recreation of the real world, in which the brilliant S.H.I.E.L.D. engineer Leo Fitz was placed. Fitz's memories were rewritten so that he would become a HYDRA officer and Aida's lover, working with her to complete her plans.
