Supernova
It is possible that the red sun was located near Krypton and was destroyed as a result of the war with General Zod. Kyla Willowbrook mentioned that a constellation used to form the face of a wolf, the animal that Skinwalkers take the form of, that the eye of the wolf is missing and that the star has been destroyed; this star may have been Krypton's sun.
Kryptonians
Under a red sun, Kryptonians are returned to their natural, powerless state due to the fact that their species was nourished by the red sun, Rao. After prolonged exposure to yellow sunlight, Kryptonians, when reintroduced into a red sunlight environment, may seem weakened, as Clark Kent and Kara were as seen in Apocalypse.
The cloned Kryptonians who were created by the Orb received their powers under a red sun instead of a yellow sun due to their genetic material being irradiated with blue kryptonite by Jor-El. This is the reverse effects of a natural Kryptonian who receives and stores powers like a battery under a yellow sun, with the clones doing the same but under a red sun.
Yellow Sun

Yellow Sun known as Main-Sequence Star, is a relatively young star which remains in the prime sequence of its life. This makes yellow suns the brightest and most potent of all stars. Earth's own sun Sol is a yellow sun, the source of Clark Kent's Kryptonian superpowers.
Metahumans
Byron Moore exhibited super strength in a feral state when directly exposed to the sun. When he was not exposed to the sun, he lost his powers and regained control over his violent tendencies. Unlike Clark Kent and other Kryptonians, Byron immediately ran out of power when he left the sunlight; this suggests that he lacked the ability to store solar energy to be used later. Many metahumans have demonstrated powers like super speed or super strength without an obvious power source. It is unclear if they draw their power from the yellow sun or have the ability to act as a solar battery.
Kryptonians
Solar energy from the yellow sun is the source of energy for Kryptonian powers. More precisely, the solar energy is theorized to be transformed into a bio-electrical force field that endows Kryptonians with superhuman abilities. The force field shields Clark's body and the surrounding area from external forces; as a result, his clothes can sometimes survive the impact of an explosion. In addition, Clark possesses a remarkable healing factor; if he is wounded due to the presence of kryptonite, magic, or something else, he will heal almost instantly after the incident.
When Clark is exposed to large amounts of sunlight, his powers are greatly magnified. It is not yet revealed if his powers can grow without limitation. His healing factor seems to be limitless. Clark can also lose control of his powers during solar flares, as seen in Perry. On the other hand, Kryptonians can use their abilities during a solar eclipse. Clark has demonstrated the ability to use his powers while indoors or otherwise not directly exposed to the yellow sun. This suggests that he is capable of acting as a solar battery and storing solar energy for later use.
If a Kryptonian is powerless, absorbing a large amount of sunlight radiation can restore their powers. Exposure to kryptonite seems to inhibit Clark's ability to use his powers. It is possible that, in addition to inhibiting Kryptonian powers, kryptonite may drain the solar energy of Kryptonians. Kryptonian spirits, while inhabiting a human host that lives under a yellow sun, can gain powers.
Kryptonite
Kryptonite, in its rather wide variety of forms, was a ground mineral that made up the planet Krypton and was completely harmless to Kryptonians under a red sun. They can be found abundantly throughout Earth. However, like how Kryptonians are affected by the radiation given off by the sun, kryptonite is imbued with influential abilities derived from the yellow sun that can harm Kryptonians in tremendous ways. When a meteor rock is in close proximity of a Kryptonian, they glow.
Bizarro
As would be expected from a reverse Kryptonian, green kryptonite makes Bizarro stronger and he is weakened by sunlight. While Bizarro could fly in broad daylight (as seen in Phantom), his skin became deformed and took on a pale gray color when it came into direct contact with sunlight. While sunlight didn't affect Bizarro to the extent that green kryptonite affects Clark, it appeared it only diminished him just enough for him to be pierced by earthly objects, such as a steel rod, if enough force is applied.
Martian
The yellow sun has the potential to strip or rid Martians of their powers and abilities permanently if they are in the vicinity of its heart. However, Doctor Fate was able to restore John Jones' abilities by teleporting him into Mars' outer atmosphere, indicating that it is permanent because a de-powered Martian would have absolutely no way of getting to Mars.
Solar Battery

By acting as a solar battery, Kryptonians are able to secretly absorb solar energy into their body. Many Kryptonians can store solar energy from Earth's yellow sun in their bodies.
Powers
- When Kryptonians reach Earth, their cells become storage components for solar radiation, absorbing the sunlight, which in turn, runs all of their abilities. As is the case with Kryptonian vessels, such as Jonathan and Lionel, who also absorb and store the energy to power Kryptonian abilities. Such energy, when properly utilized, can heal, strengthen, and power-up Kryptonians.
- It appears that even a relatively small amount of solar energy can provide Kryptonians with a vast quantity of energy as was shown when, after barely a minute of exposure, the Disciples of Zod were able to project powerful blasts of heat vision as well as being invulnerable to a hail of bullets.
- Kryptonians, as seen many times throughout the show, don't necessarily need to be directly exposed to or even under Earth's sun to sustain their superhuman abilities.
- Kryptonian DNA can be modified with blue kryptonite to remove Kryptonian powers; in this case, energy from a red sun can instead be used to power a Kryptonian's solar battery. However exposure to a large enough quantity of solar radiation has been shown to be sufficient to restore and revive a depowered Kryptonian.
- Green kryptonite : Seems to minimize the amount of solar energy a Kryptonian can utilize, while in the presence of the rock.
- Certain cosmic influences : Like solar disruptions and deficiencies, such as a solar flare, can weaken this ability in Kryptonians.
- Blue kryptonite : Appears to hinder the ability of Kryptonians to store and/or access solar energy, as the stone strips them of their powers under a yellow sun.
- Gold kryptonite : Has been speculated to strip Kryptonians of their abilities forever; this would also prevent Kryptonians from processing and storing solar energy.

Solar tower

Solar tower was a beam that was supported by two-outer buildings. It was built by Tess Mercer and LuthorCorp, with the help of Major Zod. According to Tess, the Solar Tower was the world's first completely self-sustaining tower; one tower could generate enough clean energy to power all of Metropolis.
Powers
- Solar tower's main use for Tess Mercer was to create better, cleaner energy for the planet and make the world greener.
- Major Zod, on the other hand, intended to use the tower to turn the yellow sun red to give himself and his fellow Kandorians their abilities that would make them gods among men.
- The process for this required the use of the LuthorCorp satellites.
- Once the tower collected the sun's radiation and turned it from yellow to red, it would then send the radiation to the satellites which would send the radiation back down the earth and fuel the Kandorians' powers.
- The solar tower was easily destroyed by Clark Kent's heat vision.
